Property Guardian, a leader in wildfire risk intelligence for the insurance industry, today announced the expansion of its Overwatch active wildfire intelligence platform to include coordinated wildfire response capabilities. Through a new partnership with Capstone Fire & Safety Management operations, this addition brings a new dimension to Property Guardian’s active wildfire capabilities: connecting intelligence about where a wildfire is likely to spread with experienced resources capable of responding before it arrives.
Through Overwatch, insurance carriers and other commercial property organizations can monitor active fires, identify exposed properties, and leverage wildfire spread forecasts to understand how an event could develop. When an insured commercial property or group of assets becomes threatened, Property Guardian can now coordinate deployment with Capstone’s industry-leading wildfire response resources based on the client’s priorities and the evolving fire environment.
“Wildfire intelligence is most valuable when it gives you enough time and clarity to act,” said Pat Blandford, Founder & CEO of Property Guardian. “We built Overwatch to help insurance teams see emerging wildfire threats earlier and understand where those fires may go. Adding active response closes the loop. We can now help our clients move from identifying risk to taking action designed to protect properties, businesses and communities before a wildfire reaches them.”
Extending Wildfire Response to Complex Commercial Risks
While private wildfire response has historically been associated with higher-valued residential properties, commercial assets present a fundamentally different operational challenge. In just the past few months, Property Guardian and Capstone have coordinated response operations across a broad range of commercial and community assets in wildfire-exposed areas of Colorado and Utah. During these initial deployments, hundreds of structures have been proactively assessed and protected, including resorts, manufactured housing communities, educational facilities, and other facilities critical to infrastructure. Notably, post-event evidence indicates that several structures were ultimately saved by the decisive actions of the Capstone team.
“Protecting a commercial property during a wildfire is rarely as simple as protecting one structure,” said Paul Brady, Head of Wildfire Insights & Mitigation at Property Guardian. “You may be dealing with dozens of structures across hundreds of acres, specialized equipment, fuel storage, infrastructure and completely different priorities from one site to the next. Overwatch gives us the forward-looking intelligence to understand the threat, and this partnership gives us experienced resources on the ground to translate that intelligence into action. We trust Capstone to deliver world-class wildfire mitigation and response resources to our clients.”
Connecting Predictive Intelligence with Field Response
When a response is initiated, Property Guardian works with the client to establish priorities and response objectives based on the assets at risk. Capstone personnel manage field tactics and coordinate with local incident authorities, while Property Guardian maintains operational visibility and provides regular updates to the insurance client. The result is a coordinated approach that combines predictive wildfire intelligence, insurance-focused risk expertise and professional field response.
“Property Guardian brings insurance clients an advanced view of where wildfire risk is developing and which assets may be threatened,” said Robert MacKenzie, Fire Chief, Program Development, at Capstone. “Our Capstone teams bring the field experience and resources required to respond in those environments. Bringing those capabilities together creates an opportunity to act earlier, with better information and with clear priorities around the assets that matter most.”
From Early Warning to Active Loss Prevention
For commercial insurers, MGAs and other property organizations, the capability provides a more direct connection between wildfire intelligence and loss prevention: identifying threats earlier, prioritizing the properties and assets most at risk, deploying resources where appropriate and maintaining visibility as conditions change.
Property Guardian selected Capstone for its experienced fire-service personnel and its ability to operate within complex wildfire incidents. Capstone Fire & Safety Management provides specialized outsourced firefighting, technical rescue and safety services to public, private and government organizations.
“This is where we have always believed wildfire intelligence was heading,” Blandford said. “Not another score or another dot on a map, but intelligence that helps people make better decisions and, ultimately, changes outcomes. By partnering with Capstone we can now deliver active wildfire protection solutions.”
